inside light (2024)
CMYK print made with plant based emusion on a board from removed from a spray booth inside of a desk.
inside light is an image, a story telling device, a photo and a frame, a whole object made of parts, and part of it is sensitive to outside light. Artificial light does not represent the projected image, but it will still project it. In some cases, artificial light will not make the invisible visible, but in some ways it does. The print inside the desk is a projection of the desk. The desk can also act similar to a photo frame, and this work is similar to a photograph. The complete image is not just the print, it is all that is seen here.
This print is not fixed so the parts of the print that are not protected by the shadow from the desk lid are subject to fading in the sun light over time and should be displayed in this way near an open window. These photographs were taken at night. The print was made with a UV lamp in 4 separate sessions exposing inkjet transparency channel separations of a color 35mm photo scan. The exposure time was approximately one month from first light to full exposure. All of the plants were grown and processed by myself and the team of gardeners at UIC’s Plant Research Lab in Katelyn Pattons Art Garden from May until November, In November, they were made into 4 separate emulsions present here in the final work, and the final image was completed in December 2024.
