More of A Circle (2023)

MiniDV short film
Nessa (my mom) had a heart attack and was in telemetry for 35 days with blaring lights, beeps and alarms, and teams of running flocks of nurses. After she was cleared to leave she was admitted to a rehab room with a person she knew from the senior apartment community next door where she has her own apartment. This film was an intentional effort for cheer her up, to give her a day of fun as best as she possibly could have in her situation. I asked the nurses if I could bring her to her apartment in her wheelchair so she could be reminded of home, see her friends. Her roommate in her rehab room shared some intimate syncrhronicitys, some heartwarming moments. More of a Circle references a reaction to the arrow, the direct path for seniors. Outside of the facility there is sign that says, “The fastest path from hospital to home.” The follow the arrow game references that idea of this path, the direct path and the inherent invisible ageism of this path. Also, when I was a child and I was scared my mom would say, “Just think of Bert and Ernie.” R.I.P Lynn, Delores, and Sharon(not in the film).
